Dear Members,

Smile We need your help!! Smile

As you may remember, Professor Sir Ian Gilmore made a recommendation to the last government, that people in England with long term conditions should be entitled to free prescriptions. Unfortunatley this matter was still in debate when the new government came to power, and consequently we are still campaiging for this now.

We have just heard that an Early Day Motion (EDM) has been tabled for this, and we need your help to get as many signatures as possible.

Therefore, please can we ask all of you to contact your local MP, and ask them to sign this EDM, supporting the call for Free Prescriptions for people with long term conditions.

Let's use our collective voice to improve the lives of people with long term conditions.

Many Thanks

Sally - NRAS ThumpUp ThumpUp

Hi Sally,

Thanks for the heads up on this.

The EDM information is here (if your MP asks what EDM No. is it's 523)

http://edmi.parliament.u...D=41476&SESSION=905

Brown promised us this, of course it never happened, lets hope it can go through now (though I won't hold my breath)

You can use the They Work For You site to contact your MP

Dear.......

Please will you sign the EDM 523, supporting the call for Free Prescriptions for people with long term conditions. I have rheumatoid arthritis and am a member of the NRAS support group.

I am also very aware that people with Motor Neurone Disease also need more support. Please could you also sign EMD 254 to help make a National Strategy for MND a reality. To find out more please visit http://patricktheoptimist.org/

Thank you so much.

Yours sincerely,

.....................

I'd not looked at the EDM for a few days, there were only 5 others on it when I last checked it, but it's looking a bit more healthy now (40) You can see the MP's who have signed it as they're listed down the right hand side.

http://edmi.parliament.u...D=41476&SESSION=905

Please get in touch with your MP if you've not already done so. I contacted mine, but he's still as useless as ever and hasn't even sent an acknowledgement let alone a reply.

Had a letter from my local MP today saying as a general rule he doesn't sign Early Day Motions because they have no legislative effect and cost over £600,000 annually in printing and publication costs alone - not good use of public money.

However, on a more positive note, he ended by saying he's written to the relevant Government Minister to voice my concerns - Health Minister I presume?
